Academic Skills Scoring Rubric

4=Exemplary Behavior Skills.

Demonstrates a Positive Attitude, Honest, Polite, Enthusiastically participates in school activities, Manages own behavior independently, Engaged in learning, Productive and Follows Through without reminders, Prepared, Cooperates with staff and peers, Demonstrates Respect for self and others, Manages conflict in a constructive manner.

4=Superior Performance well above the Standard.

Considerably beyond baseline requirements. Student understands, applies, and extends key concepts and skills as described by the state Grade Level Expectations (GLEs). Similar to a consistent 97%+ mastery score on the traditional grading scale. Students must achieve this level of accuracy PLUS demonstrate the ability to consistently extend their performance beyond the key concepts and skills.

3=Acceptable Behavior Skills

Generally Positive Attitude, Usually Honest, Is Polite and Respectful in both word and action, Appropriate contribution to school activities, Manages own behavior with little guidance, Generally Engaged in learning, Usually Productive and Follows Through on Responsibilities, Follows Most Directions Independently, Usually Cooperates, Usually manages conflict appropriately.

3=Solid Performance that meets the Standard.

Beyond the baseline requirements in some areas. Student understands and applies key concepts and skills as described by the state GLEs with limited errors. Similar to the 85%-100% range on the traditional grading scale. Students must achieve this level of accuracy but may not demonstrate the ability to consistently apply the skills in extended areas.

2=Developing Behavior Skills

Sometimes Positive Attitude, Not always Honest or Polite, Manages own behavior with adult guidance, Somewhat Engaged in learning activities, Productive in some situations, Follows Some Directions, Sometimes Cooperates, Struggles to Show Respect, Manages conflict appropriately if supervised.

2=Developing Skills/Partial Performance

Shows the student is working toward the standard. Below the baseline requirements in some areas. Student is beginning to understand and apply key concepts and skills but still produces some work that is below standard. Similar to the 70%-80% range on the traditional grading scale.

1=Needs Improvement in Behavior Skills

Rarely Positive Attitude, Not always Honest or Polite, Struggles to manage own behavior, Seldom Engaged in learning activites, Seldom completes tasks, Difficulty Following Directions, Seldom Cooperates, Does not Show Respect, Manages conflict inappropriately.

 1=Needs Improvement/ Not Meeting Standard.

Below the baseline requirements in most areas. Student is not demonstrating understanding of key concepts or skills. Similar to the below 70% range on the traditional grading scale.
